Today we spent time experiencing a typical Swiss family day. Audrey had a few last minute details to attend to so we went shopping in downtown Zurich. It is great fun to be the "Mother of the Bride"! The flowers and cake have now been ordered. Audrey and Robert have planned a beautiful wedding.
Audrey introduced us to her favorite candy. It is a chocolate tube filled with cherry Schnapps. You bite off the top, drink the Schnapps, then eat the rest of the tube to enjoy a blend of chocolate and cherry. This site talks about how the candy is made ...

James and Fred spent the day also shopping ... but much of the time was waiting for Audrey, Ruth and I. We now have plenty of beer and the fixings to make a batch of chili, which Audrey had requested as soon as we arrived. Later, James showed Audrey how he made the chili that she had tasted while she was in the U.S. Ground beef is very expensive in Switzerland by the way: about $11.00 a pound!
We had a very nice picnic on the old Zurich city wall, then continued shopping. Ruth, Audrey and I met Audrey's sister, Hannah, in a large department store in downtown Zurich. Globus is a large chain similar to a Super Target but more upscale. After we finished the shopping upstairs, we went down to the grocery section where Ruth and Audrey selected 11 different cheeses for dinner. Dinner was sliced cucumbers, radishes, cherry tomatoes, wine and boiled potatoes, along with the cheeses. My favorite was a Brie with a truffles filling, but they were all good ... or at least interesting! James liked the Bleu Cheese best. To each his own!
We continue to notice the differences. The letter carriers here drive scooters with a basket in front for the neighborhood mail and a trailer behind that contains the mail for the other areas on the route.
I am very glad that Fred, Ruth, and Audrey are driving! Even on the highway, the lanes are narrower than we are used to and people drive very fast. The trip down from the mountains was on a narrow, curvy road and the locals were very impatient with Fred and Ruth ... and would pass us on curves. The narrow streets in the towns are very scenic but make for some tight squeezes, especially when you meet a bus or truck coming the other way!
